Best of Ashland 2009 - People and Business
BEST SKATEBOARDER IN TOWN
This is the first time we added this category, and it generated a fair amount of attention. We all see these guys (and girls) zooming around town, and now get a chance to put names on them.
Taking down the number one spot is Mason Huggins, a local kid who is actually making money competing on the skateboarding circuit.
Others mentioned a lot were:
• Lucian Fiore.
• John Reynolds.
• Dirty Dan.
• Nico Toll.
FAVORITE TEACHER AT SOU
The New York Times called it a “hidden gem of education,” and just recently the EPA named Southern Oregon University to its Top 20 list of “green” colleges and universities. Joining the accolades were our readers, who named 28 different teachers as doing a particularly good job,
Topping the list for 2009 was Business professor Mark Siders, who received his bachelor’s and master’s from Indiana State University, and his PhD in 1998 from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Others mentioned a lot were:
• Mary Russell-Miller, Psychology.
• Cody Bustamante, Art.
• Dan Morris, Professor of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
• Geoff Mills, Education.
• The entire teaching staff at the Department of Theatre Arts.
